The general divisions of time in Tagalog are as follows:

Usage


To use an aspect of time you can use it as it is or attached an adjective that relates to time prior to it. Usually, it is attached to an adjective that modifies time.

Ngayong araw. ~ Today.
Kada buwan. ~ Every month.

Double Meanings


Aside from taon which means year. The three (3) Tagalog aspects have double meanings which means it changes depending on the context.

The suffix -an or -han (specifically a prefix) when attached to makes this certain aspects of time mean that they occur in frequently relative to the word they modify.

Under The Microscope



The difference between a reduplicated aspect of time and an aspect of time with the suffix -an is generally just the form though reduplication gives a it more emphasis. Except for arawan and araw-araw. Arawan in the general sense of the word is now interpreted as "paid daily" or the payment relative to working everyday.

Magkano arawan mo? ~ How much is your daily salary?

Taunang pangyayari. ~ Yearly occurence.
Taon-taong nangyayari. ~ Yearly occurrence.


Derived Terms


In general, the term madaling araw refers to dawn or daybreak. It is the time before 6 A.M. in the morning, sometimes from 3:00 A.M. to 5:59 A.M. or sometimes as early as 12:00 A.M.
